    Bloggiesta Finish

    January 11th, 2010

    bloggiesta finish

I made it to the finish, sort of. I really enjoyed the Bloggiesta and want to thank Natasha from MAWBooks for hosting this event.

Here’s my list again, with the things we have done crossed off:

    • update WordPress (and make a back-up)
    • write a review on Terry Pratchett’s The colour of magic
    • make pictures (or find them on the web) of all TP books I have (beause I’m going to read a lot of them this year)
    • with a little help from dan_e (my BF) try to get Disqus working We did not work it out, but I’m happy the way my comments look now with the gravatars and all
    • I want another share-this thingy
    • visit blogs and leave comments
    • find books for the Whats in a Name challenge
    • make a plan about Blogging Challenges, The Sunday Salon, Booking Through Thusday etc. Get some structure in posting blogs and plan them in my calender and ToDo applications.
    • create an index page for books I read and reviewed and an index page for knitted items (with links to the blog posts)
    • plan a Bloggiesta day (or weekend) for myself once a month.

So besides the writing part I pretty much accomplish everything from my list and more. I made a start with a Cheat Sheet, I changed my side bars,  I have an awesome button which leads to the Dutch translations and I have progress bars, which show the progress on my fiber projects.

I have no idea how much hours I spent we spent on my blog, but I really enjoyed it. I have learned that I am not the 1-project girl. I need diversion. So dan_e and me did watch some episodes of the Borrowers, we played a Natalie Brooks game and started a Nancy Drew one, read books and had fun away from the PC. That’s why I think my “last Wednesday of the month is Bloggiesta day” is a good idea. I can plan some smaller projects, or break a larger one in little pieces and devote more time on that day on blogging.

The challenges were great too, but again, I did not make the time to follow up on them, but with my php-guru I did not need it either. I told dan_e I needed some information in my meta data and he made it for me. I muttered something about a gravatar and favicon and he asked me “What should it look like?” I know. I could have done it myself, but this was so much more fun and so much easier :)

Anyway, I move the items that are left on my list to my ToDo task manager in my iPhone and will get to them asap.

    Bloggiesta day 1

    January 9th, 2010

    Bloggiesta

dan_e and me did a lot this morning, mostly “tweeking” my blog.

Not much done which was on the list, but there are some changes made in the side bars.

    • I removed the LibraryThing widget on the right and made a link on the left side
    • the centre part of the blog is wider
    • the Flickr flash-thingy is back. It still looks broken in my IE, but in Chrome it looks ok. Maybe I should stop using IE then.

But the thing I liked best is my “klik voor Nederlands”  (click for Dutch) button. dan_e had the great idea of putting my Dutch translation under the “more tag” making it only visible for people who actually want to read it (like my mother) :) I wanted it to be a button and not just a link, so we went on the naet, made a buttton with some free buttonmaker and adjusted it a bit in Photoshop.

I’m going to write my Terry Pratchett review in a view moments and will put it up Monday, or maybe even tomorow as a Sunday Salon blogpost. Btt first I’m going to make my 2 index pages.

Tomorrow I will continue work on my list and add another widget in the right sidebar. A fiber related one. I think I will reserve the last Wednesday of the month as Bloggiesta day, with the possibillity to ask dan_e help on the following Saturday or Sunday.

    Bloggiesta: where do I start???

    January 8th, 2010

Bloggiesta I’ve been into the Bloggiesta-mode for only 30 minutes and already I’m overwhelmed with ideas, I got distracted by many, many, way too many good blogs, idea’s, tips & tricks. My first goal is to focus on what I’m doing. So I killed my Tweedeck while I’m writing this.

I have one thing going for me: my blog is pretty new on this URL (I used to have a blogspot-blog and before that a punt.nl) so it’s almost clutter free. On the other hand it can use some “tweeking”, and lucky me, dan_e, my BF is a webdeveloper and he knows his java and php :)

    So what are the plans:

I’m going to check out some mini-challenges and the There’s a book blog seems like a good place to start.
Oh see, the first thing I learned already practiced: anchor text not a “click here” link, but use the name of the blog/person you are linking to: read about anchor text on Michelle’s blog Gallysmith. Like that :)

One thing I really want to do is make the cheat sheet.

Other things I want to do this weekend:

    • update WordPress (and make a back-up)
    • write a review on Terry Pratchett’s The colour of magic
    • make pictures (or find them on the web) of all TP books I have (beause I’m going to read a lot of them this year)
    • with a little help from dan_e (my BF) try to get Disqus working
    • I want another share-this thingy
    • visit blogs and leave comments
    • find books for the Whats in a Name challenge
    • make a plan about Blogging Challenges, The Sunday Salon, Booking Through Thusday etc. Get some structure in posting blogs and plan them in my calender and ToDo applications.
    • create an index page for books I read and reviewed and an index page for knitted items (with links to the blog posts)
    • plan a Bloggiesta day (or weekend) for myself once a month.

Well thats about it for now. If I can think of anything else, I will let you know. Oh.. I just got an SMS from dan_e: he has arrived in my town, will be here shortly and he too has some ideas for my blog :)

    Bloggiesta

    January 6th, 2010

Next weekend its Bloggiesta and I signed up (being numbur 93 on the list) Follow the link and read all about it. Bloggiesta
I’m copy/pasting the intro from Maw Books Blog:

“Mark your calendars for the second edition of the Bloggiesta on January 8th, 9th and 10th, 2010!  What a perfect time to do some blog housekeeping, sprucing up and prepping the blog for a new year of fantastic blogging.

After feedback from the last Bloggiesta, we will be partying for three days instead of two!

Some of you may be asking what is Bloggiesta?  In short, it’s a blogging marathon.  A opportunity to cross those nagging items off of your to-do list and improve your blog while in the good company of other awesome bloggers doing the same thing.  Break out the nachos, enchiladas, drinks, mariachi music and whack a pinata or two!”

So.. No all I have to do is make a wishlist.. Oh I can use my iPhone for that :)
