A few weeks ago I read on Ria Nirwana’s blog about the Smash Album. On her blog is also a YouTube movie:

Its an awesome movie and be sure to turn your sound on. The music makes me very happy I fell madly in love with the Smash book. So I went looking and found it at the K&Company website. It was awesome, but the bad thing is: not available in The Netherlands, so the shipping costs would be huge. I showed dan_e the YouTube movie and told him I wanted to move to the US. (just kidding)

So why am I telling you all this? Well that incredibly sweet partner of mine decided to surprise me, so he went on the web and ordered it, not telling me anything. He is good with that: keeping his mouth shut about surprises.

Yesterday when he came at my house, he gave me a box. When I asked what it was he replied: “Oh nothing, just open it.” Well 3 guesses what was in it. I am very happy with this “nothing”

There are so much more spreads to show, but i just give you these. I show more when “smashed” my stuff in. Dan_e also got me some cute Smash clips to go with the book. With the book came a pen/glue stick. So you can put it in your bag and always have a pencil and a glue stick handy. I love it.

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

OMG is this a dread or not. She is pregnant. Every second sentence we are being notified of that fact. My sister in law had twins and did not even look half as fat as Miss Carriger makes us think Alexia is.

I am going to finish it but it’s not a pleasant read. I just want to know how it ends – and no, this time I did not read the last chapter after the first, which I usually do. I’m about half way through, so I might finish it soon and I’ll give my final rating. It’s with books like this, I’m glad I can read very fast.

EDIT October 26th.
So I finished it last Monday, the 24th. And all I say is this: I will remove that one star as well if I could. I seriously don’t know what got into miss Carriger by writing such a terrible bad book. Of all the unbelieveble, lousy written crap I have ever read, this is surely in the top 5. I’m going to hate the word “waddle” for a long time now.

A quicky: only 185 pages on my e-reader and I finished it within 2 hours. It was a nice read. I always feel like coming home when I pick up one of Maggie Sefton’s knitting cozy’s. It makes me want to pick up my long time neglected knitting.
This one however was different. I think Miss Sefton tried to make a statement or needed to write about sexual abuse and made one of Kelly’s friend a victim. Too bad it did not work out very well. It was too flat, no real depths or emotions that came up. Like even such a horrible event needed to be covered up in cozy warm knitting. It all stayed on the surface, it just wasn’t right.
Kelly’s sleuthing however was still the same. Even after 2 years she jumps to all the wrong conclusions. But maybe it was this time because she was way on the sideline, like hardly sleuthing herself.

All in all it was not a real great read like the earlier books, but I still like to read about my favourite yarn-shop-in-a-book: House of Lambspun.

Used as part cabinet, part pantry this big old linen closet stands in my kitchen for several years already. It used to have a big mirror in one door, but that broke unfortunately some while ago.

This is what it looks like with the doors closed:

When you open it, you see some shelves and they are loaded with “stuff” Here is the top:

and the bottom:

dan_e and me went to Ikea again yesterday (yes again) to buy some boxes, plastic plants for the bathroom – we found some awesome lavender plants – and a very clever invention: the shelve on a shelve. W got 3 and I used them in the kitchen closet. Here is what it looks like now.

The top:

See those white plateaus on the shelves? That’s what I meant with “shelve on a shelve”
The middle:

The bottom:

So this was another side track from the FlyLady baby steps. But its ok. I have some good new routines and stick to them. I still read the website and follow the steps, even though I’m not blogging them right now. I will soon.

Remember last year, when I showed you this? Well we decided to do it again, so yesterday we went to the market to get the tomatoes and fresh herbs, and today we are grilling them for 4 hours. This is after 2 hours hen we have to turn them upside down:

And yes, I will put a glass bowl under the jars so if the jars flood over, I don’t have the disaster like last time.

Today was a very big day for Charlie & Emma, my 2 kittens who are not really kittens anymore. Remember about a 18 months ago when I introduced them? May 8th, 2010 to be exact was when I showed them.

Well today they had their annual shots, they got their chip and the big neutering operation. I brought them to the vet at 8:30 this morning, called back at 1 PM to hear all was well and at 2Pm they where back at home, a bit drowsy still.. but home. Here is Emma in the back on the green blanket and Charlie in the front:

When I write this – a few hours later – they get better and better, although Emma is still a bit wobbly on her feet. Charlie is demanding food and Emma too follows hopefully when I walk into the kitchen. Officially they cannot have food until tomorrow, but I might give them a wee bit, because they haven’t eaten in a long time.

Today was also day 14 of FLYlady’s baby steps. I was to read an essay written by Kelly. It was about using calenders. For me not much I did not already know or do. I have my Rainlendar in sync with my Google calendar on my PC, and my Ticker File for my bills and other reminders. And it works fine. Like for instance today. My rainlendar states on yesterdays date Charlie and Emma should eat before 6PM, today it says I have to bring them to the vet between 8:30 and 9:30 am. And in todays folder of the Tickerfile I put their medical Passports so I would not forget that. Pretty organised huh?

Tomorrow is day 15: make your bed. I am making that on a daily base as well. Thats what I mean with the baby steps going slow. I know why its done this way, and it works, but maybe I’m more BO (born organized) then I thought. Anyways. dan_e is joining us as always in the weekends, so I might not be blogging until late Sunday evening or Monday during the day.

Like I said yesterday, I’m back into the blogging-mode so here we go.

Day 13 of the FLYlady baby staps states: Find one of Kelly’s missions and do it. I followed the link and saw todays mission is all about – and I quote – “flinging all those old, stretched out, worn out panties and bras that are just taking up space.” Well needless to say I wont show you any pictures of the results from the 15 minutes I spent digging into my drawer right? But I can assure you I got it done and my panties and bras are happy to have more space in their drawer.

Today I spent almost the rest of my time cross stitching. I am a big fan of the patterns from Maryse: Les grills de Maryse I don’t speak a word French, but Google-translate is my trustworthy companion on her blog. I’m stitching her 2011 monthly SAL and I’m almost finished with January. Yes I know I’m way behind.. or wait. FLY lady says: You’re not behind! So Im just jumping in

This is my result so far:

My next step is to translate “Janvier” into “Januari” because I want my months to be in Dutch. But I have the alphabet grid as well so that should not be a problem.

Tomorrow’s baby step is to read an essay Kelly wrote. I’m glad its an easy step, because tomorrow my kitten-girls have an appointment with the vet to get their shots a identification chip, and they are also going to be neutered. I feel so sorry for them, but its the best thing to do. If I don’t, they keep having their periods of heat and have more risks of getting all kinds of nasty cancers. But still.. It will be a hard day for all 3 of us tomorrow. And I bet Dan_e will be thinking about them too.

Yes I am still FLYing, but I got a little side tracked so I <del>stopped sort of with</del> took a brake from the babysteps. Until now that is, I intend to pick them up tomorrow. I will show you what got me sidetracked though.

I rent my 1 bedroom apartment (approximately 50 square meters) since March 1997. When I moved in, I painted the walls, the windowsills the ceilings and got me some nice vinyl floor covering. Now, almost 15 years later, I have a wooden floor and my home has seen many colours on the walls. I changed the grouping of my furniture almost every 3 months and got new things and ditched old stuff. In all the rooms but the bath room.

This is how it looked like untill last week:

to the left (yes that’s me in the mirror, standing in the doorway)

The wash basin

I forgot to make a picture form the “laundry corner” but I found this one with my previous cat Ayla on it. It’s dated December 2007. Need I say more?

Anyway, after a lot of hard work I managed to make it much, much better. Take a look:

I’m planning to get me some plastic plants for the wooden planters on top of the lavender shelves. I am very pleased with the result. There is still one small matter of the washbasin though. There is a hole in it and next week I get a replacement. Meanwhile Charlie checkes out the hole from above:

and from below:

Whilst “Diva Emma” sits on her “throne”

So that’s it. I hope to be blogging about my FLYlady baby steps soon. I did not stop the habits/routines I already acquired during the first 12 days. I keep shining my sink and I keep FLYing.
